Maintaining your VAT/CVAP  title

As a certified Veterinary Anaesthesia Technician (VAT) or Certified Veterinary Anaesthesia Practitioner (CVAP), your certification is reassessed every four years.

To maintain your title, you must complete at least four days of relevant continuing education during each four-year cycle, equivalent in principle to one day per year.

Eligible training must be related to veterinary anaesthesia and may include topics such as anaesthetic techniques and procedures, intensive care, pain management or fluid therapy. Consecutive training days are accepted, meaning that a multi-day congress, such as an AVA congress, may fulfil several days of the requirement at once.

Two ways to collect your training days

  1. VASTA refresher/ revenge courses or webinars — offered every year. Your attendance is recorded automatically, and no additional documentation is required.
  2. Other relevant courses and congresses — training provided by other organisations may be accepted following formal review by VASTA. Please submit your certificate of attendance using the form below. One event must be submitted per form, with a maximum file size of 8 MB.
For local, smaller or less widely recognised events, VASTA reserves the right to request the official programme or agenda. This allows us to review the event topics, speakers and educational content before approving the training days.

How to submit your training

Click the button below to open the submission form. You will be asked to provide:

  • Your name and email address
  • The name and dates of the event
  • The number of training days completed, with half days counted as 0.5 days
  • Your certificate of attendance
  • The official programme, if requested by VASTA

If you have your personal CPD reference, for example VAT-PL-0001, please enter it in the form. You can find this reference in our emails. It allows us to link your submission to your record immediately.

Do not worry if you do not have it available. We can also match your submission using your email address.

After review, you will receive an email confirming whether the training has been approved. The email will also show your current balance, including how many training days have been accepted and how many are still required before your next reassessment.

Illness, accident or maternity leave

The required number of training days may be reduced in cases of prolonged illness, accident or maternity leave. Please submit a written request to VASTA. Each request will be assessed individually and treated in strict confidence.
